Spot the intruder!
A year ago we bought a Hereford cross calf as a companion for an orphan Dexter heifer calf. He too thrived on the Crsscliff pastures.
Our next beast should be ready for the butcher at the beginning of August, about a month after his second birthday. The plentiful grass this spring has helped the steers put weight on at a great rate and this animal, who is known as a 'short' Dexter has great conformation and promises to produce some really nice steaks, not to mention those ever popular fore-end cuts. Orders for mixed boxes are being taken now for delivery around the first week in September.
The great Spring and the resulting lush grass means that our Dexter steers have been putting on weight much quicker than expected. This will be our next Dexter steer to go to the butcher. He is a 'short' type, which means he is smaller than the standard Dexter but his beef will be equally mouthwatering. It will be available around the end of August.
Another of the contented 2014 beef consignment.
His Dad, Churcholme St George is snoozing in the background, building up his energy to resume stud duties in July
This boy will be ready in August too.
The next steer is ready for the butcher.
This is a very nice compact two year old animal by our stock bull Churcholme St George. The wonderful grazing this summer means he will produce very nice meat indeed.
